Vacon delivers frequency converters to central Russia

23 December 2002 - Vacon Plc has signed a significant contract with Tatenergo, the biggest energy company in Tatarstan, Russia. Worth 700,000 euros, Vacon's first order covers frequency converters with a total power of 5.3 MW. The drives will be delivered to the district heating plant in Naberezhnie Chelny, a city of half a million inhabitants.

The frequency converters are part of Vacon's step-down/step-up solution for controlling 6-kV medium voltage AC motors. The solution improves the operation of the city's district heating network and brings substantial savings in energy consumption - an average saving of 50%.

The purchaser was convinced of the suitability of Vacon products, since the units to be installed at the district heating pump stations are already proven technology. Further, the Vacon frequency converters are in use in many similar kind of installations near St. Petersburg, Russia.

The Republic of Tatarstan with the population of 5.5 million is located in Central Russia, approximately 1000 km east of Moscow. Tatenergo is one of Russia's fifteen biggest energy companies. Vacon has also established a service centre in Tatarstan, which strengthens Vacon's service network in Russia.
